What animal frightens you most, and why?

Spiders. Because they want to trap me and suck my still living tissue out of my body while I scream and scream into insanity.

Nah, I think it's really all to do with the way they move. It bugs me, pun unintended.

That and I got bitten by a brown recluse as a small child.

And my High School GF dragged me to see Arachniphobia.

Take yer pick:)

One of my former coveners is TERRIFIED of spiders, and years ago was just stupid enough to go see that movie while his wife was out of town.

I was awakened around 2 am by a phone call, it was her asking me to tell the dolt to PLEASE turn out the lights so she could get some sleep. When my husband heard me roaring with laughter, well....he realized this phone call wasn't an emergency and fortunately had only gotten his pants on. So need to make an emergency dash to the city.

To this very day I'll still tease him about that bone headed stunt.

"Jana...he won't turn off the lights." "What? What's wrong?" "I'm TIRED and he won't turn off the lights." "Why?" "He watched arachnophobia, while I was gone and has kept the lights on for a whole week!"

Lost it.....*snickering*

He really hates it when I'll wiggle my fingers in imitation of a spider and say "oooh don't turn the lights out."

*ROTFLMAO*

I heard somewhere that this is an urban myth.

Have you ever been to Chicago? I was there visiting with a friend who is afraid of spiders and he told me "there are a ton of spiders in the city" to which i just assumed he was being a drama queen... he wasn't!

He pointed out hundred of spiders as we walked through town, it was even beginning to creep me out eventually and I am not afraid of spiders normally.

If I had to pick an animal that frightens me most it would have to be a slug or snail or something like that - something so different from me that it just seems unnatural.

Last time I was in Chitown, I was a bit busy watching Naked Boys singing to notice the spider population:)

While I'm not afraid of spiders in general (I'm the weird lady who will trap the wolf spiders of the world and set them free outside), brown recluse spiders are a different story. I see them, they dead. And up until a few months ago, I thought St. Louis was a no black widow zone, but my parents' next store neighbor found one in their back yard. Yeah, brown recluse spiders are just plain evil -- try waking up in the middle of the night and seeing one right in the middle of your floor, and if you hadn't turned on the light, you probably would have stepped on it with your bare feet. Ewwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!

I think my worst spider incident was when I lived in a dorm. I had a loft bed, and I had a spider run across my pillow.

Managed to bang my head on the ceiling trying to get it off the bed:)

I remember sitting on the couch with my mom a few years ago when they were still living at their old house, and she brushed away what she thought was a stray hair. It turned out it was a brown recluse spider crawling on her chest. I think my mom is officially heart attack proof.

Before my husband and I moved in to this apartment, we sprayed. We've seen the occasional spider here, but no brown recluse spiders, thank the gods. I've also heard that Osage oranges will also keep spiders at bay.

Yes... also known as Hedge Apples. That's what they're usually called in Ohio. Generally are said to keep spiders, cockroaches, crickets, fleas, and various other arthropods away. Something about them they don't like.

If anyone wants to know what we're talking about here:

Oh Ok, I know what those are. And I think I know where they grow wild down here to boot!

Hmm, gonna have to find some of those. I generally let spiders live under the condition they stay out of sight. Once it enters my field of vision, it has 10 seconds to run while I scream like a stereotype and then I get the shoe.

You so wouldn't like it up here.

It was really odd when Ishte lived here. The spiders seemed to get the message about her, and they remained largely unseen the entire time. I think it was those rare freakout moments that did it.
