Well, based on its wikipedia entry, it's a giant crab. Which makes it tasty when boiled.

*curling lip up*
2nd-Oct-2008 07:58 pm (UTC)
Not a seafood eater I take it?
2nd-Oct-2008 08:01 pm (UTC)
Vegetarian....no meat of any kind. I'm actually allergic to meats.
2nd-Oct-2008 08:04 pm (UTC)
I didn't know that... Sorry to hear it.
2nd-Oct-2008 08:48 pm (UTC)
*huggles* Is okay. I'm actually in better shape not eating meat. According to my personality and birth sign...I'm a Type O...and Type O is healthier on a vegetarian diet.

Oh? Is there a website with this stuff on it I could look at?
2nd-Oct-2008 09:56 pm (UTC)
I cannot remember *where* I found the information. I think my older sister pointed it out to me. I'll ask her.

ROFL never saw that one before:)

Well, yeah, but it's lovably ugly.

And the basis for the Zerg Overlords in starcraft:)
2nd-Oct-2008 09:08 pm (UTC)
good lord! It looks like something from another planet!
2nd-Oct-2008 09:09 pm (UTC)
Eh, just deep sea. Which is close enough to another planet in some cases. (In case you can't tell, I loved Zoology:))
2nd-Oct-2008 09:25 pm (UTC)
Oh jesus christ I bet it's hiding under my bed or in the closet! Help!
2nd-Oct-2008 09:26 pm (UTC)
Well, it's not as scary as one of those pictures they take of dust mites. Close ups of insects bug me.

I love seafood, especially lobster although it's extremely expensive, and sad to say this critter is uglier than sin (it is kinda cute in a weird way) it's a lot better then this

I'll reply with a better comment when I uncross my legs again. /nod

Nice description on the crab-like creature, still kinda creepy looking

as for the news link. I don't know who had more tears in the eyes: me or my husband.

Probably your husband. while I realize those are delicacies some places, it doesn't change the collective unconscious sympathy all males feel for those who lose those.

Just the thought is sheer horror. I still cringe when I watch Man Vs Wild on Discovery when he's in the Sahara - some business having to do with a camel

3rd-Oct-2008 03:22 am (UTC)
I think the one that got me was when he killed the fish by biting it. *twitch*
3rd-Oct-2008 03:32 am (UTC)
Oh yeah, that's right up there with eating goat's testes and spiders.....not. I'm petrified of spiders but I'd eat the spider first.....hell with that I'd starve first.

But then again our little friend up top looks tasty - even if he/she/it looks like something out of a Issac Asimov novel

Makes me wish I could afford a pound of Crab's legs at the moment. I think I may beg mom for some on my birthday.
3rd-Oct-2008 03:36 am (UTC)
that would be a nice bday feast

That thing is the stuff nightmares are made of. I love crabs and lobster, especially with butter, but that guy is getting nowhere near me! :O
3rd-Oct-2008 03:26 am (UTC)
Well, according to the wiki entry, that little shellfish was the basis for the Zerg Overlords in Starcraft. So I'd eat the damn thing if only for revenge for all the times I got zerg rushed.
4th-Oct-2008 03:34 am (UTC)
Mmm... bet he's yummy though. WOnder if his shell turns bright red when I cook him.
4th-Oct-2008 06:34 am (UTC)
I'd say probably. Then again, it's been a while since I boiled a crustacean.
4th-Oct-2008 02:07 pm (UTC)
They say that lobsters and crabs are that brown mottled color because their shells have mottled applications of red, yellow and blue pigments. Then what happens when you boil them is the blue pigment is destroyed by boiling. So what's left is just the red and yellow pigments which you really see mostly the red, but it leaves the food a lovely appetizing orangish red.

Since these are paler, more like a horseshoe crab, I'm guessing that they probably stay sort of tan.

(I really already kind of knew the answer, I was just asking to be funny! haha)
