Oh f***ing yay.

me
Ok, home for work and finished reading through all the comments that went up between when I left for work and when I got home.

Most commenters seemed to miss the point entirely, continuing the same fucking arguments that set off the rant in the first place.

One person made a comment that Presbyterians must not be Christians because my letter didn't reflect true beliefs.

One person said my beliefs don't reflect Presbyterianism.

One person called me self-serving and illogical.

However, more than a few people came out and complimented me and seemed to get the point.

I am now curious when the hell "Judge not lest ye be not judged" interprets as "We (as Christians) should judge others by our own Righteousness." (Someone actually posted that. It really does seem to go against the rest of the message as I learned it.)

I also had more than a few folks get upset that I use the practice of spelling "God" as "G-d", something I piked up from my Jewish friends. I found it amusing that something I do as a form of respect was interpreted as an attack on the sanctity of the divine.

Any rate, I need to go to bed so I can get ready to open tomorrow.

People just make me tired most of the time. I thought what you said was very well-crafted, sensitive and logical.

"Judge not lest ye be not judged" interprets as "We (as Christians) should judge others by our own Righteousness." (Someone actually posted that. It really does seem to go against the rest of the message as I learned it.)

These are the same people who missed the whole "let he who is without sin, cast the first stone" part. I think a lot of their "righteousness" is self-serving and illogical most of the time.

And I know my last statement contradicts the tone of your article, but I get frustrated. I'm sorry. I spend most of my time trying not to generalize, which is why I feel I have to clarify that that statement is actually just addressed to the particular people who've missed that lesson, not necessarily Christians as a whole group.

I knew what you meant. The people who think they know the message the best are generally folks who missed the point. You know what I mean, I hope:)

I'm not quite sure how you'd be surprised when you throw meat to the trolls, the trolls appear.

It was a nice letter, maybe a little on the kum-ba-ya side, but it's utterly wasted on these small-minded provinicial fucks which live around here. That's why I don't waste my time writing to the newspaper - being a bit of the capitalist, I don't see the use of me doing intellectual charity work if it isn't going to produce anything of substantial value to the community.

The best solution to Springfield is leaving.

Actually, the funny part was finding out how many of my regulars read the paper. I got much nicer comments from them than the usual trolls on the site itself.

Not that any of it matters, since I've noticed most people who write to the paper are in love with the sound of their own inner monologue. Kind of wish I could afford Ohio right now..they generally don't have a "G-d, guns, or gays" letter of the day in the newspapers.

Sweetheart they're always going to find something to take offense to, and scream they're being dissed.

The one good thing that's come out of it is that it looks like a few people actually did take time to read and think about it before making comments. those are the folks I could dialogue with.

Plus I've had more than a few customers come in and discuss it while I was ringing them up. People are much more polite when they aren't hiding behind the anonymity of the net.

Let's put it this way...it's a lot safer to be POLITE! Particularly when 90% of the population can't open their mouth without being completely offensive, and have no idea how to word their opinion without it sounding rude crude and totally out of line.

I know this to be true.

It seems to be a widespread phenomena too! Just saw where some professional athlete was suspended due to his mouth.

I imagine it was the steroids talking.

And some other things talking, and ....nope...nope...not gonna say it! *biting tongue*

Eh, I was actually expecting more negative comments, actually. Although I did enjoy proving the one person to be a dumbass who thought I was using G-d to give offense instead of respect. Mind you, it probably flew over his head, but...

In all honesty, I'm just happy that I seem to have made a few people think. I don't care if they agree, I care more that people use their brains to think, rather than their asshole.
