me
Some guy going off on how witnessing to homosexuals to help them leave their lifestyle could be considered bullying under the proposed law.

Unfortunately, YouTube seems to have taken down most of the videos showing exactly what "Witnessing" to gay people looks like. So, I'll describe my experiences with it for those of you who have never been through it.

Imagine an older man with a megaphone screaming "Faggot" and "gay folks are going to hell" into said microphone as you walk by him. Imagine said person waving signs with Bible verses and slogans like "AIDS kills fags".

Then you come back to me and tell me how this is compassionate and loving ministry.

Tell me how this is following the example of G-d in his aspect of Jesus.

Seriously. Kiss my ass. Jesus loves me the way I am. I have a feeling if he incarnated in this modern age, he's be breaking that signboard over your head.

Well the way they go about it IS a form of bullying! And frankly those bible thumping "witnesses" do tend to get over zealous and into the realm of Bullies R Us. IF someone wants to be 'witnessed' that's one thing...but shoving it in people's faces is just flat wrong.

I dunno, I view it less as bullying and more as a bizarre kind of sexual harassment. Which I do suppose is a kind of bullying, but harassment seems to carry a greater weight.

Well that's what bullying is hon.....flat out harassment.

OH and when someone tells me they'll pray for my soul, or wants to save my soul...I tell them I know EXACTLY where my soul is and it's perfectly safe, they can't have it.

*giggle fit* I doubt you've ever seen Evil Dead II, but that comment puts me in mind of one of the monster's best lines in the movie.

"I'll Swallow your soul!"

*shaking head*

I tend to not watch those kind of movies. Thank you...NO....I can scare myself just fine without any help whatsoever. *LOL*

Come and get some.

"Swallow this." *bang*

Just remember that in their mindset, Jesus' love would include beating you to a bloody death with the cross he was hung on while screaming every obscenity under the sun at you.... And then they will wonder why you don't GLADLY accept it, and tell you your "faggot-ass" should be grateful for it.

Have you ever read Imagica by Clive Barker? or Small Gods by Terry Pratchett?

Both have some very interesting takes on religion in a fantasy framework.

Unfortunately, most folks who SHOULD read them won't.

YES, I loved both!!
Actually, it's Barker's take on religion that made me a fan of his..

He did have a lot of interesting things to say.

I think I fell in love a little bit when he pointed out the homoeroticism inherent in asking God and Jesus to come into you:)

You noticed that too? I always thought it was a bit ironic - the inherent homoeroticism latent in the mythology, the fact Catholis priests are not supposed to ever have relations with a woman.. yet they villianize homosexuality.

I understand the roots of the whole "No sex ever", but still, it does seem kind of silly to me.

I always saw it as a perverse form of masochism - forbid the one thing that is desired the most, and then continuously dangle it in front like a carrot on a string while chastising them for desiring it.

I don't really know. I never got into aestheticism. Denial of earthly pleasures seems to me to be a direct violation of divine orders to enjoy the world as created:)

Same here! Personally, I think they do it as a form of power-struggle

If you're not careful, I see this slowly transforming itself into a gigantic feel-good forum circle-jerk about how evil Christians are. Everybody loves a punching bag in order to feel better about themselves: some Christians have queers, and recently in this particular space, it's reversed.

Everyone loves reading "me too!" comments to their journal, but all manners of reflexivity make me nervous.

*snickers*

I do see your point, but I'm also doing my best to defend Christianity as I see it on here and elsewhere. I generally leave it up to my atheist friends to do the Christian bashing.

Seriously though, I was always raised to believe that the church should be open to everyone, not just people who tow the party line. Which is why I get irritated at people who write in defending a church for disfellowshipping someone already going through one of the roughest transitions out there.

thanks for bringing back the bad memories of the WSU quad gods.
