Once again, LJ ate my post, or more to the point, Internet Explorer ate it.
I am not retyping the damn New Jersey trip. I will do that tomorrow.
In the mean time...
Wow, a Kennedy is in office in California! And he's not even Irish!
"Protection of Marriage Week" my ass. More like "Kissing the collective ass of the right wing fundies who elected me to office week". Look, I'll be honest, gay marriage is not an issue I really care about at the moment, but I disagree with the principle Dubya is setting with this stuff. It's all well and good to try to support 2 parent homes, but to ignore the reality that 1 parent homes exist due to circumstances beyond control do exist is asinine. Did Jerry Falwell et al expect mom to remarry right after my dad died just so my brother and I could grow up in a "traditional" family? Should a woman or a man stay with a spouse who beats the crap out of them night after night just so the kids have a "traditional" family? Should my brother's ex-girlfriend's mom stayed with her husband, who sexually abused her on several occasion so she would grow up in a "traditional" family? It all sounds good on paper, but I really think these people are blind to the harsh light of reality.
I never thought I would do this, but I must admit that Fred Phelps has a point. Regardless of how much I dislike him, his inflammatory tactics, his venom towards people he doesn't comprehend, the 1st amendment does give him the right to spew the bile he spews. And according to local law in the area he's putting up the crass sculpture, he does have a legal right to do so. Unless they change the law, which I can't see them doing. They way I see it, we can either A)ignore him, thus robbing him of the power he holds over our lives, or B) get some TNT or C4 and blow the damn thing to hell. Or pull a Jim Morrison's tombstone and just smother it in graphitti to the point its robbed of whatever meaning it had. Or better yet, let him make an ass out of himself. I dunno. I get angry just thinking about it, but I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't acknowledge his rights.
I, like so many others, am kind of hoping for a Cubs-Red Sox world series. If only to see which curse holds more weight.
Ok, time for me to hit the sack. It will be nice to sleep in my own bed, and not deal with the loss of equilibrium that flying wrought.
