Poem: Pygmalion redux
2nd-Jan-2007 07:10 pm
My hands are dumb
They cannot paint you on a canvas
They cannot shape you on the potter's wheel
chisel you out of marble
or even mold you from wax

My mouth cannot express in words the beauty I see within you
my camera cannot capture your soul
I cannot enchant a mirror for you to see
what it is you are inside for me
even just a little

Instead, like a blind man
I can only show you how beautiful you are
by running my fingers through the brushstrokes of your creator
feel the grooves of clay that shaped you
caress the rough egdes the flutes carved in your marble flesh

my mouth opens to offer you sacrifice
my eyes become my camera to capture this moment
my soul reflects the moments we share
and only here, in intimacy can we truly be as our creators intended
two artworks combined as one.
